To upgrade the firmware of your ICARUS essence, do the following:

1. Download the firmware upgrade from the ICARUS website. Never install upgrades from third-party websites, this will render your warranty invalid. Click on the image of the ICARUS essence to open the downloads for this product. If there are no files here it means that no firmware upgrade is available yet.

2. Unzip the file to a folder on your computer using a decompression tool like WinZip or 7Zip. Possibly you can do this even with your operating system’s functionality, but this depends on the version of the OS your computer has installed.

3. There are 3 files in the download package:

1) these instructions

2) a file with the extension *.img and

3) the archive RK_PACKAGEV1.5.rar

4. Unzip the contents of the archive RK_PACKAGEV1.5 into a folder

5. Go to that folder. Within that folder there is another folder called RK_PACAKAGEV1.5 underneath. Go to that folder

6. Go to the folder MP Tool

7. Run the application RKBatchTool

8. A screen will appear

9. Click on the button in the top right of the window. Go to the folder where you extracted the 3 files in step 2. Select the file with the extension *.IMG

10. A screen will now show the firmware is loaded into the application

11. Connect the e-reader with the micro USB cable. Connected devices will now show one device connected in pink

12. Click on the Switch button .

13. Now press the upgrade button

14. The upgrade process will now start. You will see a progress indicator (%) and the color turns to yellow

15. After a few minutes you will see a message

16. The firmware is now complete. You can remove the device via the ‘Safely remove hardware’ feature of your computer 17. Your e-reader is now ready for use again!

About e-Reader Firmware:

Update your e-Reader firmware version to this release, and the device can get touch features improvements, application updates, usability and compatibility enhancements, as well as several other related changes.

If you want to apply this version, the installation process isn’t much of a hassle because each manufacturer tries to make it as easy as possible: most of the times, you need to transfer the new firmware to the e-Reader through the available methods, and initiate the upgrade from the setup menu.
